ON-SITE・INSTRUCTIONAL SWIM・SAFETY・SLIDES!
When it’s hot and humid outside, there’s nothing like cooling down in the pool!
Swimming, swimming, in our on-site swimming pools!
Our camp families love that along with over 110 acres of beautiful country setting, Green Acres has two on-site, outdoor heated pools and an outdoor heated junior waterslide park, making it easy to keep cool! All campers swim daily, participating in both instructional swim and a fun, recreational swim!
Safety in the Water
Parents have peace of mind knowing that safety in the pools is a top priority as we go above and beyond York Region Public Health Safety Standards with respect to lifeguarding requirements. As an example, when regulations require us to have 3 lifeguards on deck, we will have at least 6 Lifeguards on duty, not only on the pool deck but also in the water. In addition to lifeguards, each pool is supervised by a senior member of our swim leadership team. At our waterslide park, we have a minimum of 9 Guards including ones at both the top and bottom of each slide. A Deck Supervisor is also on duty to oversee the facility.
Instructional Swim
Using the Lifesaving Society Swim Program, campers are taught by hands-on, certified swim instructors and are able to advance their swim skills while having fun! We maintain low class ratios to give the children the attention and instruction they need. We emphasize a step by step progression approach in learning to swim. This means that campers progress at their own individual pace, without peer pressure, making swim instruction an enjoyable experience. A wide variety of teaching aids are used extensively – flutter boards, swim bars, hoops, life jackets, diving rings, etc.
All campers in the same unit (i.e. same grade level) swim at the same time, although they are placed in groups by swim levels. A Swim Assessment Questionnaire will be available in the spring for parents to fill out.
We also offer the Lifesaving Patrol program, Bronze Star and Bronze Medallion for more advanced swimmers.
Swimming in the Deep End
Deep-end bracelets are earned when a camper completes a swim check that demonstrates their ability to swim in deep water. Deep-end tests can be attempted throughout the summer, as campers’ swimming skills improve and our instructors work with them. Campers are not allowed to go into the deep-end without a bracelet.
When Your Child(ren) Pass Their Swim Level
Campers are taught at their own individual pace and testing is done throughout the summer. When/if your child successfully completes the requirements of their level, you will receive an e-mail notifying you of their accomplishment and they will automatically be placed in the next swim level.
Mid-term Swim Report (Must be Registered for a Minimum of 4-weeks)
A link will be emailed at the halfway point of your child’s stay at camp to an online mid-term swim report indicating how your child is progressing in his/her instructional swim lessons. A final online swim report will be sent via email on your child’s last day of camp.
Swim Questions and Concerns
If at any time during the summer you have any questions or concerns about anything in the swimming program, instructors, placement level, rules, etc., please do not hesitate to email our Swim Unit Head.
